Here is my recap of the wedding and vendor reviews.
The Reveal:
We decided about a month before the wedding to do a reveal and for us it was the right decision. It was so nice to have that time together and made the rest of the day so relaxing. And we got great photos of it also! The rabbi did try and crash the party but our photographers quickly shooed him away! I was able to peek out my window and see Ben waiting on the terrace before I went down to meet him and it really got me all excited! We were then able to sign the Ketubah and marriage license, see the ballroom set up beforehand, take pictures, etc. I'm so happy we did it this way.

The Ceremony: Was wonderful all around. I was not nervous at all once I started walking down the aisle although my heart did pound a bit waiting to go out. I teared up a little during the vows but kept it together! I was very proud of the beautiful Interfaith ceremony we planned with the help of our officiants.
The Reception: We had a blast as did our guests. I ate an entire plate of dinner, 2 pieces of cake, drank champagne, danced with my husband and my friends and visited tables. What more could you ask for? The guests actually used and complimented the bathroom baskets so I'm glad I ended up doing them. A great time was had by all.
Private last dance: Ben and I had a private last dance after our guests exited the ballroom to line up for our exit. It was so great to have those last moments together just the two of us. This was probably the most memorable moment of the entire night for both of us. We didn't want it to end!
Venue: The Warwick Melrose Hotel, Dallas www.warwickmelrosedallas.com
This is a toughie. I’ve decided I have to break it down into segments to give a true grade.
First of all, if you asked anyone at my wedding to grade it overall, they would say A+. And really, I have nothing to complain about. My wedding was fabulous from beginning to end. Everyone had a great time and the wedding flowed along nicely at a great pace. But I have to wonder if my other vendors had not been so wonderful what really would have happened.
Wedding Coordinator: Grade: B-.
My venue came with an onsite wedding planner, which I was very happy about. Planning went along nicely but there were some hiccups—contracts would be wrong, missing something, etc. I would have to remind her about details, etc. There was a MAJOR issue with my ceremony space that was handled badly by her. But in the end I had every confidence that she would do a great job. I put her 100% in charge of décor and it looked fabulous—everything was truly beautiful. But there were small things: my napkins were folded incorrectly, a small vase of roses was on the wrong table, she had silk petals on the cake table instead of fresh that had to be changed, we didn’t have enough ceremony seating, etc. Things that don’t matter now, but at the time were very irritating. The biggest problem is on the day of the wedding, it was very difficult to get a hold of her for things I or Ben personally needed. She made absolutely no effort to make sure we were ready, on time, where we were supposed to be, etc. and we were completely left to our own devices. I expected her to be at the reveal and she wasn’t so right in the middle of it, the rabbi shows up on the terrace waving and walking over to us. There was confusion as to timing so I ended up making my photographer start very late. And to top it all off she left early before our exit. Ben said every time he saw her she looked nervous and frantic. We have since learned she had four appointments to show the Melrose the day of my wedding, the last one being from 3:00-4:00 p.m., which I find incomprehensible. If the décor had not been so fabulous, her grade would be a lot lower.
Management: Grade: C.
When we booked the Melrose in January, we made it clear we wanted the terrace uncovered for the ceremony and we were told it was no problem. The WC said they would wait until our weekend to put the tent back over the terrace for the winter. Then in September I was told abruptly that this was not the case and that the terrace would indeed be covered. Not only that, but the WC made it sound like I had known this the whole time, even though I was clearly distressed and it was obvious it was the first I had heard of it. They then admitted they had “changed their policy” over the summer. They did make some monetary concessions for us through upgrades, etc. but in my opinion it was not enough. Also they claim they can fit 120 on the terrace and 180 in the ballroom. I ended up with around 110 guests and in my opinion that was nearly too many for both spaces. The dance floor was very small and although we could move around freely in the ballroom, I cannot imagine 60 more people in there. Maybe they do something magical with their set up but let’s just say I’m glad we had some cancellations.
Rooms/décor: A+
Here is where the Melrose shines. Everything was beautiful and the venue did provide a lot in the way of décor for me to use, although I brought in a lot of my own. The WC arranged it all beautifully and the things that were wrong were of little consequence. Everyone loved their rooms, the lobby, the bar, etc. The ceremony space was perfect for us. My suite for the first two nights was awesome and the bridal suite (which was complimentary) very nice also. I loved having the wedding there from this standpoint.
Customer service: A+.
Another strong point. Everyone was courteous, helpful, etc. The two main women that helped during the reception were wonderful. The Melrose added very classy touches such as when the guests exited the ceremony space, they were immediately greeted with glasses of champagne. We had butler passed appetizers. Our plates were made for us and waiting when we got there. The cake was cut and served butler style at every table. In our suite, we had leftover cake and a bottle of champagne when we got back. The valets and bellmen were prompt and so helpful. Just so many lovely touches made it all the more classy and special. We also had a brunch in The Library the morning after and it was wonderful.
Room service: C-.
Terrible. I called 3 times on my wedding day to have my lunch removed from my suite so it would be gone by the time my photographer arrived and it sat there for hours. Also when you call the actual room service number on your phone no one answers.

Food: A.
Everyone loved the food and drinks and they kept it well stocked and flowing. The potato martini bar was my favorite thing of all. The house champagne was good. Our lunch Saturday, breakfast, and brunch on Sunday were all very good. There were some complaints about the stations being slow and crowded. The appetizers I thought were pretty good. I didn’t care for the smoked salmon station we had but the fruit and cheese display was excellent. I would probably give the food at the wedding 31/2 out of 5 stars.

Florist: Tami Winn Events/LeFleur Couture (f/k/a A Magic Moment)
http://www.tamiwinn.com
From the moment I met Tami, I knew I wanted her to be my florist. She just seemed to get my vision immediately and then showed me how she could make it even better. The flowers were beautiful and of high quality, and Tami was great to work with throughout the process. She also decorated my candy buffet jars at no charge. For what you get, I feel her prices are more than reasonable—definitely the best flowers for the money.

Cake: The Cake Guys, Duncanville www.thecakeguys.com
When I walked into the ballroom and saw my cake, my jaw hit the floor. It was beautiful, a stunning showstopper and exactly what we had talked about. The buttercream icing was so smooth, for a second I thought it was fondant. That being said, I did have some tiny disappointments—I had asked for piping to be applied under the ribbon on each tier and it wasn't there. But the biggest issue was the fillings—there wasn't very much filling at all, in fact icing went halfway down each layer before there was any filling. I am not sure we were given ANY ganache filling that we ordered in the chocolate layer. The cake itself is delicious, but it’s the fillings that take it over the top tastewise and I specifically remember thinking the cake I had at my wedding was not as good as the cake I had at my tasting or when we served it at our parents’ dinner. But it was still realllly good and looked like a cake in a magazine. Grade: A-.

DJ: Glenn Roush Productions www.roushproductions.com
We hired Glenn Roush on the spot even though he was the first DJ we met with. We felt like we would not find anyone we liked better and we were not disappointed. What makes Glenn so great is his attention to every detail—he has you fill out a form where you list everyone in the wedding party, what music you like, what you don’t, etc. He makes an effort to get to KNOW you so that when the wedding day comes, he already has a feel for how you want your event to go. He can totally see what works, what doesn’t, etc. He threw in a “married couples dance” that was a huge hit (and yet another chance for me to dance with my new husband!). Thanks to my MIA wedding planner, he also took on the responsibility of arranging our exit and handling it all by himself perfectly. He arrived early, stayed late, and kept everything flowing perfectly—we had time to eat, dance, and do everything we wanted. I can’t say enough good things about Glenn Roush. Grade: A+++.

Ceremony Musicians: Four Strings, Denton

I didn’t get to hear much of them but we got a ton of compliments! I know they played everything I asked for and David Cason was a lot of fun to work with. Ben and all the guests said they were excellent. Grade: A+.

Officiants: Marty Younkin, LoveNotes; Rabbi Jeffrey Leynor
Marty was wonderful and we got tons of compliments on both him and our rabbi. Putting together an interfaith ceremony is not the easiest thing in the world and it was very important to us that we create something that everyone in attendance could enjoy and appreciate, and with their help, we did. Everyone from both faiths said it was beautiful and the perfect blend of our religious beliefs. Grade: A+.

Hair and Makeup: Kristin Colaneri www.kcolaneri.com
I enjoyed working with Kristin throughout the planning process and I feel her prices are very fair for all that she provides. I looked fantastic on the wedding day and so did my mom, sister and daughter. I loved having someone so skilled in both hair and makeup. She is a perfectionist and can run a bit behind but it’s only because she will not leave until you are perfect. Communication with her can be a bit slow over email—she admits she does better with phone calls. She did forget about my first spray tan trial (which keeps her from an A+) but of course gave it to me for free. The great thing about Kristin is she will do whatever YOU want and can do any kind of look because she is experienced in many areas. She is also excellent with hair extensions and will provide them for an extra fee. Grade: A.

Photographer: Lynn Michelle Photography
www.lynnmichelle.com
I was really upset after my first meeting with Lynn Michelle. I called Ben on the phone and said I wished I had never met with her. Why? Because I knew after meeting her, no other photographer would do. At the time, I was afraid our budget wouldn’t allow for her but with her help, we created a package that met our needs and our budget. But what really makes her and her crew stand out is what they do besides just the photos. Lynn and Vivian were surrogate wedding coordinators and did so many other things beyond the call of duty and did them with ease. They were so great to work with and I am beyond happy with our pictures!

Invitations: Elegant Occasions (Etsy)
I enjoyed working with Beth at Elegant Occasions and she matched the vision I had for my invitations perfectly. I did have to provide my own ribbon however, as the ribbon she had was latte and not champagne. I also upgraded the envelopes to slightly heavier linen ones from Anchor Paper. But the end product was just what I wanted, albeit at $4.50 a piece plus the cost of envelopes and ribbon. Grade: A.

Calligraphy: Calligraphy by Angela
Angela is a woman who started her business because she loves working with brides so much. She was a joy to meet and work with. I personally feel that $1 per envelope is a steal for such beautiful handiwork. If you can find room in your budget, I highly recommend both calligraphy and Angela! Grade: A+.

Wedding rings: Gillespie Jewelers (Bride), Addison; Boonerings.com (Groom)
Ben had my engagement ring and wedding band custom made by Kim Gillespie at Gillespie Jewelers and it was wonderful. We ordered his titanium ring online from Boone Rings and he loves it. Great customer service and experience with both. Grade: A+.

Candy Buffet: TJ Maxx (containers); Papermart (takeout boxes) Metrocandy/Bulkfoods.com (Candy); Sweet Be’s (custom M&Ms)
My candy buffet was a huge hit. If you are thinking about doing one, I say do it (in lieu of favors). It looks great, everyone loves it, it’s a nice favor people actually want, and even though we as brides know they are done all the time, the majority of your guests have probably never seen one. Word of caution: don't buy a ton of candy. 1/4 pound per person max is plenty. Metrocandy was the cheapest I found for candy and Sweet Be’s the cheapest for the custom colored M&Ms.

Bridal Salon: Alfred Angelo, Firewheel Mall, Garland
I enjoyed my experience here. This is a busy salon and I would recommend going early in the day and having an appointment. My dress came much earlier (late March, ordered in January) than they quoted me originally (first week of May). Luckily, I was able to pay for it! Their veils and other accessories are expensive but you get 15% off if you buy your gown. Grade: A.

Tuxedo Rental: Men’s Wearhouse, Plano
Ben says he was happy overall with the experience. The guys looked great, that’s for sure, but both of the best man’s buttons popped off his suit jacket. Everyone got everything on time, everything fit well, etc. Ben’s first visit wasn’t that great as they kept them waiting and weren’t all that nice about it. Grade: B.

Bridesmaid Dresses: David’s Bridal, Mesquite
Our experience with DB was just fine. We showed up late on a busy Saturday with no appointment and were accommodated. We had no problems with any of our items or our order. We got the dresses, shoes and wraps from DB. You aren’t going to get special, individual attention at DB and I don’t know that I would recommend them for your wedding gown but for the BMs it worked fine. Lots of styles and colors to choose from and we found just what we wanted. Grade: A.

Rehearsal Dinner: Blue Mesa, Northpark
We had a wonderful time at our rehearsal dinner. This place was definitely loud and crowded on a Saturday night and valet parking is a must unless you happen to get lucky. The service was pretty good with a few lags here and there and the food was good. Grade: A.

Spa Day/Pedicure: Riveria Spa
This place had great reviews on the internet and although my bridesmaids and I had a fun day, I wouldn't necessarily recommend the spa. They were disorganized and running late and tried to give me a male massage therapist when I had specifically requested a female. My pedicure did hold up nicely though. Grade: B.
